Solutions in Hometown Connections (SHC) is a non-profit organization that supports vulnerable refugee and immigrant populations in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC.
The goal is to help families who are struggling navigate their new home. There are many programs and resources that SHC offers. They include but are not limited to: Back to School supply drive/fundraisers, citizenship and naturalization guidance, early childhood and youth help, English classes, and welcome workshops.
Currently, SHC’s website is the primary portal for visitors to obtain information about the programs and resources offered.
SHC wants to increase requests for support and volunteers through their website, ultimately helping them achieve their mission of building better communities for vulnerable refugee and immigrant populations.
Improving the user experience and streamlining messaging through a website redesign will make it easier for families to find information and access the support they need, as well as for volunteers and potential donors to learn about SHC's programs and ways they can support the organization.
As a design manager, I defined milestones and delegate weekly technical deliverables, all while directly contributing to the project. I worked closely with the product manager to co-lead a team of 6 geographically dispersed designers to design and implement a website redesign, ensure feasibility, and deliver assets to our clients: Solutions in Hometown Connections. The design team consists of designers with varying levels of skillsets, and I worked with each to conduct research, create site maps, wireframes, and a style guide. I lead the creative vision and consistently performed a comprehensive UX and visual design audit of the entire Squarespace website, implementing changes to fonts, colors, and ensuring seamless usability and connectivity across all pages. In addition, with input from my team, I designed all the illustrations to use throughout the website.
